MSc. Fibre Science and Polymer Technology

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is to give students theoretical and practical training in the science and technology of the modern materials of fibres, polymers and composites.

Objectives of the Programme

To provide a refresher course for graduates already in the fibre and polymer-using industries such as Textiles, Paints, Chemicals, Plastics and allied industries. The course is available to those who may wish to benefit from a deeper theoretical understanding of those aspects of science and technology, which are of particular concern to those industries. In addition, the course will provide them with a broader view of fibre and polymer chemistry and technology as a whole and an introduction to new techniques of value in its study.

Duration of the Programme

This full time Master's Programme will run for a minimum of 3 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters.

Entry Requirements

i. All candidates must have five credit passes at ‘O’ level. These must include: English, Mathematics, Chemistry and or Physics.
ii. A minimum of second class (lower division) degree with a CGPA of 3.25/5 scale in any branch of Textile Science and Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/ Engineering or any equivalent professional qualification from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria or from any other recognized institution considered acceptable to the Department and Faculty of Science.
In all cases, successful applicants shall be required to make up for any deficiencies in their previous training by taking recommended courses within and outside the Department of Textile Science and Technology.

Requirements for Graduation

A candidate must have fulfilled the following conditions to be awarded the degree Master of Science in Fibre Science and Polymer Technology:
(a) Must pass all the Core courses
(b) Must register at least 6 units of Electives per semester
(c) Must submit a Master’s Thesis
